On June 15, 2026, the Canada Revenue Agency (“CRA”) launched the Registered Plan Directorate’s (“RPD”) Registered Plan Administrator Account (“RPAA”) portal, a new online platform which enables administrators of registered plans to interact with the RPD electronically.

The key features of the RPAA portal include:

  • Accessible through other CRA accounts - registered plan owners1 (i.e., the administrator of a deferred income or savings plan) and their authorized representatives can access their registered plan accounts through the RPAA portal. In particular, authorized representatives can access the RPAA portal through Represent a Client in their CRA account;
  • Online submission of documents – submit documents online, including applications to register a new plan, annual information returns, CRA filing forms, plan texts and amendments, waiver requests and other documents;
  • Correspondence with the CRA – send and receive correspondence online with the CRA;
  • Tracking submissions and correspondence may be tracked with case reference numbers, status updates (showing assigned, pending, approved), and access to filing history; and,
  • Authorized representativesregistered plan owners may grant access to their RPAA with tiered levels of permissions to individuals or firms.

The RPAA portal is available for the following types of plans:

  • Registered pension plans
  • Deferred profit sharing plans
  • Retirement savings plans
  • Tax-free savings accounts
  • First home savings accounts
  • Pooled registered pension plans
  • Disability savings plans
  • Education savings plans
  • Retirement income funds
  • Supplementary unemployment benefit plans

There will be a transition period (to be determined by the CRA) during which paper filings/correspondence may continue before use of the RPAA becomes mandatory, but registered plan administrators are encouraged to begin using the RPAA portal immediately.

The RPAA portal is a welcome step for plan administrators that should streamline communications and filings with the CRA.
