The BC Financial Services Authority (“BCFSA”) has released a new guide outlining the roles and responsibilities of pension plan administrators under the BC Pension Benefits Standards Act.
The Pension Plan Administrators’ Guide: Roles and Responsibilities (the “Guide”) aims to promote good governance of employer-sponsored pension plans, collecting links to previously published resources and materials from the BCFSA and other industry groups, including the Canadian Association of Pension Supervisory Authorities.
The Guide is designed specifically for administrators and focuses exclusively on the minimum standards established for pension plan administrators under the BC Pension Benefits Standards Act and its regulations.
“By assisting administrators, BCFSA aims to build plan members’ confidence that their pension is being managed effectively,” said Nez Aquino, BCFSA’s Senior Vice President, Financial Institutions.
The Guide, among other topics, discusses fiduciary duties, plan governance, funding and investments, and administrative processes.
