A recent survey of plan sponsors and members shows that most have a high level of satisfaction with their health benefits plan.

The 2022 Benefits Canada Healthcare Survey found that 80 per cent of plan sponsors and 77 per cent of plan members described the quality of their health benefits plans as excellent or good.

The publication reports that employers with 500 or more employees (86 per cent) were more likely than those with fewer than 50 employees (72 per cent) to describe their plans as excellent or good, as were those with a wellness culture — 83 per cent compared to 58 per cent of employers without a wellness culture.

The survey also found that more than four in five plan sponsors reported having at least one major concern about their health benefits plan, including:

  • competitiveness (37 per cent)
  • sustainability (31 per cent)
  • utilization of paramedical services (26 per cent)
  • levels of absence and disability (23 per cent)
  • benefits fraud/misuse of the benefits plan (22 per cent).

Satisfaction over benefits is considered important in the recruiting and retention of workers, particularly in the current tight labour market in which more than two-thirds of employees have indicated they would leave their current job for one with better benefits.
