Aiming to assist parents with the cost of dental services, the federal government introduced Bill C-31, the Cost of Living Relief Act, No. 2 (Targeted Support for Households), for first reading last month (September 20th.) The Act includes the Dental Benefit Act, which would provide up to $650 a year, per child, to families with children under 12 who do not have dental insurance.
The benefit period would start in October 2022 and end in June 2024. The target implementation date is December 1, 2022 and could apply to expenses retroactive to October 1, 2022.
The goal is to eventually deliver a comprehensive national dental care program that will provide coverage for families with net incomes of $90,000 or less, including eligible persons under 18, persons with disabilities and seniors by the end of 2023. The full program is set to be rolled out by 2025.
