Filing Pension Plan Documents with the Canada Revenue Agency

The Income Tax Regulations require pension plan documents to be submitted to the CRA by registered mail upon establishment of the plan and also when those plan documents are amended.

As a temporary measure during the COVID-19 pandemic, the CRA’s Registered Plans Directorate (RPD) permitted pension plan documents to be submitted by email. However, as of April 1, 2022, the RPD is no longer accepting pension plan documents by email. Plan administrators are again required to submit plan documents by registered mail or courier only.
