Treasury Board President Anita Anand announced on June 13 that federal public safety workers, including paramedics, correctional service employees, firefighters, search and rescue technicians, parliamentary protection officers and border services officers, will be able to retire after 25 years of service — and won’t see a reduction in their pension when taking that early retirement.
Anand said eligibility was expanded to this group because of the “critical role” they play in keeping Canadians safe, adding that these jobs are “demanding” and have a “lack of opportunity” for public service mobility.
Anand announced that legislative changes will take effect in the fall of 2024.
