Market value of assets held by Canadian trusteed pension funds rose by $21.9 billion from Q3 to Q4 of 2022: Statistics Canada

Statistics Canada recently released The Quarterly Survey of Trusteed Pension Funds for the fourth quarter of 2022. The survey compiles financial information on the revenues, expenditures and assets of trusteed pension funds in the fourth quarter of 2022.

The market value of assets held by Canadian trusteed pension funds rose by $21.9 billion from the previous quarter, and 91.5% of the total market value of assets increased in value from the previous quarter.

Canadian bonds saw the largest increase within the domestic asset category, followed by infrastructure and equities. Canadian real estate was down $5.6 billion and short-term assets were down $1.9 billion.

Overall, domestic assets rose in the fourth quarter but were down by 8.2% from a year earlier. Foreign assets rose 4.3% in the fourth quarter but were down 1.9% year over year.
