Statistics Canada has released information regarding employer pension plans’ performance from the first quarter of 2023.
The market value of assets held by Canadian trusteed pension funds rose 1.9% from the previous quarter, a $40.9 billion increase, StatsCan reports. But, year over year, the market value of assets was down by 0.4%.
The largest asset category, equities, saw a 1.1% increase of just over $9.2 billion in Q1, and was followed by other assets (up 6.2%), infrastructure (up 4.6%), bonds (up 1%), and real estate (up 0.6%).
The agency also reported on fluctuation in foreign and domestic assets, along with public and private sector assets.
