New Brunswick's Bill 12 receives Royal Assent, repealing Pension Plan Sustainability and Transfer Act

On June 6, the Government of New Brunswick’s Bill 12, an Act to Repeal the Pension Plan Sustainability and Transfer Act ("PPSTA") received Royal Assent.
This completes the repeal of the PPSTA, originally enacted in late 2023. The PPSTA established a process for the transfer of several public-service pensions to shared-risk plans but was quickly met by a legal challenge from unions representing affected workers, who argued the law breached their Charter rights.
