The Government of Nova Scotia has published regulations to govern the process private sector employers must follow to transfer their existing pension plans to the Nova Scotia Public Service Superannuation Plan.

Some of the key features of the Private Sector Pension Plan Transfer Regulations, which came into effect on February 4, 2025, include:

  • A 120-deadline for transfers to occur once the Superintendent has consented;
  • A 210-day deadline for filings following the completion of the transfer;
  • Employers’ notice requirements to members of the transferring plan and any union that represents them; and
  • Voting requirements for active members, deferred members, retirees and other beneficiaries under the transferring plan.
