Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board Reports Strong First-Half 2026 Results

The Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (“OTPP”) reported a strong first half of 2026, achieving a 9.5% total-fund net return for the six months ending June 30, 2026 and a 14.5% for the one-year total-fund net return.

Net assets grew to $303.2 billion, up $23.8 billion from year-end 2025, reflecting positive performance across asset classes and the plan's continued financial strength.

Other highlights from the report include:

  • The plan generated $26.6 billion in net investment income during the first half of 2026.
  • Venture growth, public equities, and inflation-sensitive assets were the strongest contributors to investment performance. SpaceX, the first investment made by Teachers’ Venture Growth, was a significant contributor to OTPP’s return in the first half of the year.
  • Annualized net returns were 7.7% over five years, 7.8% over 10 years, and 9.4% since the plan's inception in 1990.
  • As of January 1, 2026, the plan remained fully funded for the 13th consecutive year, with a preliminary funding surplus of $31.2 billion.
