Pension Commission of Manitoba seeks feedback on proposed changes to Pension Benefits Act

The Pension Commission of Manitoba (“Commission”) is seeking feedback on potential amendments to the province’s Pension Benefits Act.
As part of the periodic review process for the Manitoba Pension Benefit Act which must occur at least once every five years, the Commission has released a consultation paper inviting discussion on several pension topics from stakeholders, including:
· Expansion of the current unlocking provisions;
· Questions regarding legislative changes that would encourage employers to create new defined benefit and defined contribution plans;
· Expansion of the use of Variable Payment Life Annuities for defined contribution plan members; and
· Adoption of annuity discharge legislation for pension plans purchasing annuities for plan members.
The deadline for submissions is June 25, 2025.
