Quebec’s Finance Minister, Éric Girard, recently tabled the province’s 2023-2024 provincial budget, which includes changes to the Quebec Pension Plan (QPP).

Here’s what you should know, based on the Finance Minister’s speech:

  • Workers aged 65 and over who are receiving a pension will have the option to cease QPP contributions.
  • Workers aged 65 and over who are working part-time will now have pension protection.
  • These changes will be effective on Jan. 1, 2024.

The Finance Minister noted that these changes are intended to encourage job retention among workers aged 65 and over.

Moving forward, it will be important to see what measures are taken to ensure pension protection for part-time workers aged 65 and over.
